** UPDATED ** Boathouse Opening..

Due to an unforeseen British Rowing AGM and Council Meeting the opening of the new boathouse is being delayed until Saturday the 8th of November, the day before the University of Lincoln Beginners Head.

The event is open to all and it would be amazing to see some old faces as well as new.

Before the first year in pictures..

In the run up to the opening we at the Centre thought it was a good idea to dig through some old boxes and find some pictures of where we were back when it all started.

The only sign of any rowing in Lincoln was the Boston Landing Stage on the other side of the river which was only used once a year for the Boston Marathon. At this time the Boston stage was the only river access.

The compound looked a little bleak and unloved. Back in its’ heyday The Pump House used to house massive motors that drove massive turbines to pull water out of the Witham and up into the cooling towers of the old Spa Road power station. The Witham looks a little deeper back then too!

Before any boats arrived, the pump house was being used by the Lincolnshire County Council as a document store. Looks like there were some Crisps in there too, I wonder if they’re still around somewhere?

Facilities Manager..

The Lincoln Rowing Centre is looking for a Facilities Manager to look after our new build on Spa Road, Lincoln.

Reporting to the Centre Directors and holding a zero hour contract the responsibilities will include but not be limited to;

Cleaning of the Centre
Manage disposal of waste
Ensuring proper maintenance of the facilities and fixings
Supplying any materials needed to carry out the role

This is a year-round role and any interested party must be in a position to manage tax and NI.

Ideally this would be a member of The Centre or understand how we operate.

Total pay; £100 pcm (piece rate)

If you are interested please email info@lincoln-rowing.org.uk

Closing date is 1200 on the 14th of July.

**UPDATED** Adult Learn to Row in July..

Due to coach availability the July learn to row has been postponed by one week. We will be starting on the 19th of July so there’s still chance to get in touch!

******

Fancy trying something new? Or have you rowed before and want to get back into the sport?

If the answer is yes to either of those questions the Centre will be running an adult (18+) learn to row course starting on the 12th of July for 6 weeks.

The course will cost £75 and covers everything you need to get you started with a new sport.

If your lil-one is partaking in our junior learn to row and you would like to know what it is all about or would like to make sure you can support them properly we can offer a reduction for the first few sessions.

If you are interested please comment or email learntorow@lincoln-rowing.org.uk.

Boston Rowing Marathon 2014..

Coming up on the 21st of September is the event where it all began for The Lincoln Rowing Centre.

Famous on the rowing calendar for, possibly, being the longest rowing race in the world, The Boston Marathon starts on the Witham just up from our boathouse and sees amateur crews come from all over the world to row the 52Km.

Last year the Centre hosted an American crew from the University Barge Club, how far will they come from this year??

BUCS Regatta..

For those of you not in know BUCS stands for British Universities and Colleges Sport and the regatta held over the May bank holiday is one of only a handful of University rowing events.

The bank holiday saw The Club finish 37th out of 71 Universities, an amazing achievement for a young club such with limited resources. ULRC took to the medals table for the second time in it’s history in the beginner single scull event! We watched Sarah finish closely behind the powerhouses of Durham and Cambridge, coming from behind in a dramatic final to take the bronze medal.

A massive congratulations from all of us at the Centre, they set the bar high for next year’s event!

Up at the Lincolnshire Show..

We like helping where we can and this week saw us up at The Lincolnshire Show helping out at the Lincolnshire Coop stand.

Well done to all who took part in the rowing challenge but special congratulations go to Paul Holmes and Elizabeth Gray (14!!) who won 3 months family membership to Burton Waters rowing a massive 335 and 284 metres in a minute. If you ever get bored of Canoeing Lizzy we are down at Stamp End 😉

Junior Learn to Row in July

We at The Centre will be making the most of the summer weather and running a Junior (13 – 18) Learn to Row starting on Saturday the 5th of July for 3 weeks.

The course will start on Saturday the 5th of July and run over 3 weekends, Saturdays 1pm till 3pm and Sundays 8am till 10am.

We charge just £30 as the course is subsidised by Sportivate organised through Lincolnshire Sport. We ask that parents commit pupils to at least 5 out of the 6 sessions so that we can keep the cost down by hitting the criteria for Sportivate.

If you would like your lil-ones to be involved please get in touch through the website or email juniors@lincoln-rowing.org.uk
