Bedford Regatta

Saturday 09.05.15 started nice & early with an 0515hrs departure for Mr Captain and his Wingman (Kieran).  A problem free journey had us arriving in Bedford by 0700hrs to undertake some rather special trailer maneuvering (over a very narrow bridge) and then managing to get the trailer into a good place next to the river (I refuse to mention that I asked for help reversing the trailer).

We had 3 crews entered all of whom had some very stiff competition which is exactly what you expect from a regatta in Bedford.  The WJ15 4x+ (Hannah Ford, Beth Cassidy, Lauren Eccles, Tilly Holmes coxed by Olivia Webb) were the first to race over the 1200m course and won, beating Great Marlow School BC by 4 lengths in a time of 4:30.   Their next race was against a crew from Lady Elanor Holles BC and despite finishing in a time of 4:25 our girls were beaten by a very, very strong crew.

Next to attack the course were the J184x- (Alex Reay, John Dransfield, Kieran Fuller & Tom Kelsey) who were to race a crew representing the South African Schools Rowing Union.  Despite a decent time of 3:45 the boys lost by 4 lengths with some unusual steering and a definite loss of technique in the final 500m not helping the situation.

Our final crew were the WJ16 4x- (Niamh Lightowler, Ellie Baumber, Lizzy Dyer & Lucy Newbutt) racing against Bedford Girls School BC.  Sadly, a time of 4:22 was not enough to win the race but the girls still managed a strong final 500m.

Well done to all of our crews and let’s go one better at Peterborough.

Lincoln Head 2015 – The Draw

The Draw is out!

Please take note of which landing stage your trailer should park at and make sure that all of your crews read the competitor information.

We have a lot of boats to get on the water and to help you our Lincoln members will be wondering aimlessly around the boating areas; if you need help carrying a boat or blades please collar someone in hi-vis or Lincoln Rowing top.

Any queries with the draw please email info@lincoln-rowing.org.uk Our aim is to have the finalised draw published by Thursday.

Provisional Draw

See you all next weekend.

The Aftermath, Boston Rowing Marathon..

The Lincoln Rowing Centre was incredibly proud to host our friends and neighbours at the Boston Rowing Club last weekend for the start of their famous Rowing Marathon.

Boston is one of the clubs who helped us in the early days and it was a pleasure to be able to reciprocate, even if it was just offering toilets and changing rooms to the rowers! Sunday was the first time our new boat house has been used properly, the plumbing held up and everyone who came across the river to have a look around was well impressed.

We would like to say a special congratulations to Lincoln rowers Jim and Ben, the only crew from Lincoln brave enough to take part, for winning the masters E double scull event (MAS.E.2X) setting a new event record of 3 hours 50 minutes and 38 seconds. All those early morning rows to Bardney lock were well worth it!

Our thanks to Boston for making a donation towards the cleaning of the Centre and the copious amounts of toilet roll you all got through!

Results can be found on Boston’s webpage http://www.bostonrowingclub.co.uk/Boston Marathon and all equipment left in the car park has made its way to their boathouse. If you think you left anything please direct queries to Boston through this link.

Nearly Nearly There, Rendering!

One of our members recently uncovered a picture of the first time we laid eyes on what would be our future home, The Pump House.

This morning, whilst enjoying a coffee at JamieB’s, I had a brain wave and decided to recreate the shot for this build update.

You’ll notice that our facilities building on the left is no longer a drab grey brick but a brilliant white hue as the break in the weather has allowed it to be rendered.

** UPDATED ** Boathouse Opening..

Due to an unforeseen British Rowing AGM and Council Meeting the opening of the new boathouse is being delayed until Saturday the 8th of November, the day before the University of Lincoln Beginners Head.

The event is open to all and it would be amazing to see some old faces as well as new.
